Real estate in Sonoita is continuing to grow in demand amid the social distancing lifestyle changes brought about by COVID-19. As the current Coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage the country, more buyers want out of the city’s cramped spaces and into more open spaces like those this rural community has to offer. Most recently, there were 17 listing for the Sonoita area compared to the around 30 listings this time last year.
“This past year and even more so now, I began to notice a growing trend in the popularity of the Sonoita area, which is a great representation of our market lately,” said Nancy Stiffey, an agent affiliated with the Williams Centre office of Coldwell Banker Realty. “Earlier this year, I had buyers from Sierra Vista and Tucson specifically moving away from the city, and my most recent pending sale was someone trying to leave the city during the current pandemic situation. Many of the clients with whom I am working now seem to agree on one thing, they want to get out of the crazy and into the calm wide open spaces.”
Nicknamed The Mountain Empire because of the surrounding Santa Rita Mountains, Canelo Hills, Huachuca Mountains, Mustang Mountains, Whetstone Mountains and all the way to the Rincon and Catalina mountains in Tucson, Sonoita encompasses high rolling grasslands spotted with cattle, pronghorn and deer in the middle of an old west ranching culture. Typically 10 to 20 degrees cooler than Tucson, the Sonoita/Elgin area is also Southern Arizona's wine country with a good many vineyards and wineries.
