A new estate designed by renowned architect Steve Hoard, AIA, NCARB, one of the primary team members for Machado and Silvetti Associates on the museum renewal and new construction of the Getty Villa in Malibu, Calif., has been listed for $5,000,000 by Maurie McGuire and Scott Westlotorn, Coldwell Banker Global Luxury Property Specialists affiliated with the Montecito office of Coldwell Banker Realty. Located at 527 Via Cielito in Ventura, Calif., the residence has three bedrooms and four bathrooms.
“Unobstructed ocean views and luxurious amenities define this California coastal contemporary as a slice of paradise,” said McGuire.
Newly constructed, this custom-built home is complete with beautifully designed furnishings and elements that connect to iconic mid-century architecture in Ventura’s premium Ondulando Estates known for its peaceful atmosphere and extraordinary views. Showcasing creative uses of natural stone, steel and fire-hardened materials, the home’s main level is nearly 3,200 square feet and includes living rooms and bedrooms with ADA-compliant features. An approximately 1,000-square-foot basement has three flex rooms, storage closets and a mechanical room with a 2,500-gallon water tank. The outside view patios and the private interior courtyard blend naturally with the Japanese-inspired gardens.
“Perched 550 feet above the Pacific in Ventura, the Wiker house blends the vernacular language of existing California coastal neighborhood and adds back a modern sensibility, influenced by the owner’s affinity for her travels in Asia,” said Hoard. “This language developed into a design that is clean and of the place, ranch house-like but inclusive of a private courtyard adorned with a Japanese garden that visually connects through the public spaces to the ocean beyond.”
Inspired by the client’s fascination for Japanese-influenced art, the landscaping is a blend of contemporary design, using a simplistic approach and the complex design of textures and geometric shapes. The design uses materials that emphasize the three key elements of a Japanese design: water, earth and life. Each viewing angle of the landscape has been considered to make sure there is a blending and feeling of tranquility throughout the garden. In Japanese landscapes, there is always the use of triangle patterns. These triangles are in multiple dimensions, creating larger triangles.
