Choo will sleep on the street for the 14th time to fundraise for Covenant House
With a beanie, sleeping bag and some cardboard padding, Christophe Choo, a Coldwell Banker Global Luxury property specialist and ambassador affiliated with the Beverly Hills office of Coldwell Banker Realty, is set to sleep on the street for the 14th time on Thursday, Nov. 20 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next morning as part of the Covenant House’s Sleep Out fundraising event. Event participants give up their beds for one night so that youth overcoming homelessness can sleep safely at Covenant House California. Since 2011, thousands of individuals, families, companies, schools, teams and places of worship have taken on the Sleep Out challenge, raised more than $10.3 million to care for unhoused youth at Covenant House California and helped shine a light on the often-overlooked youth homelessness crisis. This is the 14th year in a row REALTOR® Choo is going from showing luxury homes to sleeping in the streets to raise awareness for the cause.
“When we first began this project years ago, there were just a dozen of us sleeping out. Today, nearly 100 participants take up the challenge each year, and together, we’ve raised over $10.3 million to support youth in need,” said Choo. “As a real estate professional, my work is rooted in one simple truth: home changes everything. Yet for too many youths in Los Angeles, ‘home’ is something they’ve never truly known. Covenant House California changes that every single day.”
On a mission to end youth homelessness, Covenant House California is a non-profit organization that empowers young people across California to overcome homelessness and trafficking by providing them with safe housing, food, clothing and, above all, relentless support, unconditional love and absolute respect. Covenant House California's doors are open 24/7 for young people who need a safe place to sleep in Los Angeles, Orange County, Oakland, Hayward and Santa Clara. Youth can work toward independence through programs that equip them with the skills and tools necessary to build bright futures.
“For 10 years, I’ve been honored to serve on the Covenant House Board of Directors, a role that has given me a front-row seat to the extraordinary impact this organization makes every single day,” said Choo. “Every dollar raised helps Covenant House continue its mission to end youth homelessness here in Los Angeles. Together, we help ensure every young person has a safe place to sleep and a future filled with hope.”
Sleep Out is more than an uncomfortable night. It is an experience where participants hear inspiring stories from people who have overcome homelessness, learn from experts confronting the youth homelessness crisis, challenge stigmas and advocate for a future where everyone has a safe place to sleep. Age 24 and older, participating sleepers work toward a fundraising goal with tools and support from CHC fundraising coaches.
