Melanie Aalbers, Michele Esposito, Jan Newell, Michelle Silverman, David Spiewak, Alanna Strei, Jeannie Thompson as well as Brandon and Charlotte Weber, all affiliate agents with the La Jolla office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, have donated hundreds of school supplies to the Monarch School, which educates students impacted by homelessness. The aforementioned group of agents affiliated with the La Jolla office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage hosted a month-long School Supply Drive for the Monarch School, culminating with a donation drive event at Mission Brewery.
“The Monarch School has become our focus, and we are getting great satisfaction by giving these kids more opportunity for success,” said Thompson. “We hope our school supply donations will help support the academic pursuits of the students at the Monarch School.”
The Monarch School has served San Diego County for 32 years, beginning as a one-room education center in 1987 and evolving into a K-12 school offering a comprehensive program designed to educate homeless youth. The school is a public-private partnership between the San Diego County Office of Education and the nonprofit Monarch School Project. Monarch School students live in shelters, motels, in vehicles with their families or doubled-up with other families. Compared to their homeless counterparts, Monarch School students are attending school more often, becoming more literate, managing behaviors more effectively and graduating at a higher rate.
