Joyce Rey, a Coldwell Banker Global Luxury Property Specialist affiliated with the Beverly Hills South office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, recently helped to raise $225,000 for Los Angeles Theater Work (LATW) as co-chair of “The Art of Diplomacy.” The LATW records and preserves great performances of important stage plays, using new technology to make world-class theatre accessible to the widest possible audience and expands the use of theatre as a teaching tool.
Held at the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica, “The Art of Diplomacy” event honored the former U.S. Ambassador to Germany John Emerson and human rights activist Kimberly Emerson. Alfred Molina and Steven Weber performed Lee Blessings’ play “A Walk in The Woods.” Before the performance, major sponsors enjoyed a buffet dinner and afterward the entire audience was treated to a dessert reception.
The $225,000 raised will support LATW’s educational outreach to over 2,000 teachers and their students nationwide. LATW supplies them with audio recordings of the most important stage plays in the American and World canons performed by America’s top actors, including John Lithgow, Annette Bening, Matthew Rhys, Laurence Fishburne, Amber Tamblyn, Tessa Thompson. In addition to Steven and Alfred, more than 2,500 actors have recorded more than 500 plays for LATW. The organization also has a weekly radio show broadcast throughout the U.S. on public radio stations and is on the air weekly in Germany and daily in China on The Radio Beijing Network where it has 15 million listeners.
