For the eighth consecutive year, Mercedes Van Pelt, an affiliate agent with the Manhattan Beach office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, has collected more than 552 lbs. of food through her Fill The Bag Food Drive. The donations were used to fill eight large Thanksgiving boxes for families and any spare items were donated to New Haven Ministries.
“Thanks to our very generous community, we collected 158 bags of food that weighed over 552 lbs. this year,” said Van Pelt. “We were able to make a difference for eight local families this Thanksgiving, and even had remaining food that I donated to New Haven Ministries.”
The Thanksgiving boxes went to four Jefferson Elementary School families and four Parras Middle School families and included mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans, peanut butter, pasta, rice, cereal and a $25 gift card.
