Linda Cavett, a Coldwell Banker Global Luxury Property Specialist affiliated with the Palos Verdes-Beach Cities office of Coldwell Banker Realty and a member of the board of trustees for Peninsula Seniors, helped raise $3,000,000 for Peninsula Seniors, a non-profit organization that is governed by a volunteer board of directors.
“Participating on the board of trustees, I helped raise $3,000,000 for the Peninsula Seniors to purchase and remodel a commercial condo building suite to use as a permanent center for activities for seniors in all the surrounding cities,” said Cavett. “As a board member, I facilitated a $500,000 donation from Dorothy and John Bohannon through personal contact, which helped build a senior center and set up an ongoing endowment, which will serve as protection from unplanned budget expenses in the future. I am fortunate to have had this opportunity to give back to a community I love.”
Although most city governments provide activity centers for seniors, there were no centers in the Palos Verdes Peninsula, so seniors in the area were renting and moving from place to place since the 70s. The programs offered by Peninsula Seniors get the seniors out of their homes and into groups of friends for a healthy social environment. With the new permanent building, many more exercise programs are offered, including ping-pong, chair yoga, Zumba for seniors and many others. There are also Spanish classes, writing groups and lectures every Wednesday for seniors.
“The capital campaign ended at the end of 2019 with the naming of the building, rooms and programs after the donors, and we are expecting to close escrow on the building in the next month,” said Cavett.
